Together with the partner company Greentec, the Institute for Applied Matieral Flow Management (IfaS) organized a workshop on biogas development in the LoSENS model region Saint Louis in Senegal. Due to the current restrictions, the workshop took place online on the 16th of October. With over 15 participants from 10 different organizations. The two and a half hour workshop was a success and crucial to validating the potential analysis activities of the masterplan and the biogas feasibility study as part of the LoSENS demonstration projects investigation activities. The vivid discussions helped to verify the preliminary results and determine further proceeding as well as to strengthen the cooperation and exchange between the LoSENS stakeholders.
The LoSENS project aims to promote the valorization of organic wastes by analyzing the potentials of different material flows and by designing a big-sized industrial biogas plant as an upscaling and different business model compared to the status quo of small scale biogas installations in Saint Louis. Using geodata, literature and field observations from previous trips, IfaS calculated potentials for energetic and material valorization in biogas plants. Furthermore, the chances and challenges related to the exploitation of the organic waste from different sectors have been elaborated and discussed. Greentec build upon this analysis to draw first conclusions for the feasibility study of the large sized biogas plant. While the online workshop was very useful in order to advance with the work in the LoSENS project, all partners are hoping for a reunion in person in the next year to continue the successful cooperation. The next steps include bilateral meetings to collect individual feedback from the different participants and further onsite visits and cooperation with local partners to improve the data quality.
